Key Factors for a Successful Database Deployment – Caleb Small
This presentation summarizes the key success factors derived from a real-world deployment of two pairs of Oracle Database Appliances in primary/standby database configurations. It includes best practices for planning, initial deployment, production database migration, RMAN backup, and DataGuard physical standby configuration. It also touches on operational topics including log rotation, alert log scanning and notification, and automatic DataGuard health checks and notifications. While some points are unique to the ODA and RAC, the factors presented here are applicable to any production database deployment.
Caleb is a senior consulting Oracle DBA with decades of experience in IT, and specifically with Oracle high availability installations since version 7. He has deployed dozens of production systems on both scratch built and engineered systems including the Oracle Database Appliance. This, in combination with his experience as a professional instructor, and featured speaker for user groups around North America makes his presentations both informative and entertaining.
Experiences and Benefits of Oracle User Groups – Paul Bekker
Paul will share his experiences as an active member and supporter of one of the largest Oracle User Groups in Canada, and outline the benefits to being a part of your local Oracle community.
Paul Bekker has been involved with Oracle for almost 20 years going back to Oracle Database version 6. He joined Oracle doing Consulting, implementing 10.7 Applications at clients across Western Canada like NewFlyer Buses, Shaw Cable and Alberta Health Services. Paul moved to Advance Customer Services (ACS/Formerly Oracle Premium Support) doing more out of the box Oracle implementation focusing on best practices and working closely with Oracle Support and Product management. Paul moved next to Pre-sales and focused more on how to enable Oracle clients to get the most value out of their Oracle investments. Today Paul manages a team across Western Canada supporting Oracle Middleware and Database products and ensuring the right solutions for our clients to meet business needs.
Paul has been an active member of Oracle Calgary’s User Group for 12 years (http://coug.ab.ca) and is still a Director at Large offering support and help to the Oracle Calgary Community. The Oracle Calgary user group has just reach their 25th Anniversary and is very successful with strong memberships year over year, great presentations by the community, and a strong financial backing.
